Donut Storage Hacks: Keeping Them Fresh Without the Soggy Mess 🍩
Nothing beats the taste of a fresh donut, but keeping them from turning into rocks or mush is a real struggle.
I’ve tried a bunch of ways, and here’s what actually works: If you’re eating them the next day, just wrap them loosely in plastic wrap or foil and leave them on the counter. Too tight, and the glaze sticks; too loose, and they dry out. For cream-filled ones, always stash them in the fridge, but never in a plastic bag—unless you like soggy donuts.
If I end up with a big box, I wrap the whole thing in plastic wrap and toss it in the fridge. They’re decent for about three days, but after that, they start to taste off. For longer storage, freezing is the move. I freeze them on a tray first, then pop them in a sealed container. They’re good for months. When I want one, I let it thaw on the counter (don’t cover it!) and then zap it in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time.
Old donuts don’t go to waste around here. I’ll crumble them up for bread pudding or even blitz them into truffles. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done and nothing ends up in the trash.
