I mixed up some plant food in water, filled the bottom, and flipped the top upside down so the twine dangled in the solution. Perlite went in next, then a few lettuce seeds.
Watching those tiny sprouts pop up was wild. The twine kept the soil damp without me fussing. I tried the same trick with a coffee tub and an air pump—suddenly, basil was growing like crazy. My kitchen window turned into a mini jungle, all from stuff I had lying around. If you want to skip the dirt and mess, this is the way.
