A big hole in my new house!! What do we do with it??? 😵😵

We just bought a half-finished house, and while we're super excited, we've got a really big challenge on our hands. The previous owners intended this space to be an indoor pool, but we're not keen on keeping it that way. Now we're staring at this big, multi-sided pit... Our main idea is to level out the floor, essentially filling in the pool pit. But we also wonder if there is another way... And then there's the wooden plank ceiling. We're considering painting it white, and maybe matching the door and window trims in a complementary color. Definitely do not paint over the ceiling. Those knots will bleed right through with regular latex paint. Maybe stain it. I think that would look great 👍🏻

maybe: 1. build subfloor and flooring over it 2. build in the space under the floor and use it as extra storage, or a safe room, or anything else you like. don't just waste it by filling it in. it's there and can be usable for something😊

1) An atrium/indoor garden space if it already has plumbing installed for an indoor pool. 2) sunken living room, entertainment space for social gatherings, or home theater 3) like others are suggesting, floor over the space, leaving access for storage in half the area, with the other half set up to be a comfortable storm shelter.

Conversation Pit, used a lot in the 1950's - 1960's. Utilize that natural light, otherwise, use it as a garden but figure out a nice drainage system.

Looks like a cool feature to me. Put a wooden floor, with or without a trap door to access the hole. Then, furnish it as a sitting room. Naa, do not paint the wood ceiling.

Remove the walls (sides of the pool) and continue the floor out or you could make a sunken area, its according to what you want use the space for
