why did my carrots look like tiny orange octopuses this year?

I thought growing carrots would be a breeze—just toss seeds in dirt and wait. Turns out, my carrots had other plans. When I pulled them up, they looked like little orange octopuses instead of those perfect, straight roots you see in pictures. I realized I’d skipped the part where you loosen the soil really deep. Carrots hate hard dirt. They need space to stretch out, or they get all twisty and weird. I also learned not to crowd the seeds. Giving them room made a huge difference in the next batch.
