I thought I knew my girlfriend inside out. We’ve been together for three years, and trust was never an issue—until now. I was planning to propose, so I asked her best friend, Justine, to help pick out a ring. While Justine and I were flipping through catalogs at my place, I texted my girlfriend to check when she’d be home. She replied, saying she was out shopping with Justine. But Justine was literally right next to me! My heart dropped. Why would she lie? She came home acting totally normal, but I couldn’t shake the confusion and anger. I would have asked her friend to stay until she got home, and when she walked in the door, her friend would have been right there for her to see! And, then, THE LOOK ON HER FACE because now she has some explaining to do! As a matter of fact, I probably would have left her!

Just ask her why she lied about being with Justine and listen to her reply, if she still argues that she was with her tell her I know you are lying because Justine stopped by at the same time you talked to her

This should be a red flag to you about your relationship with your girlfriend. People who lie about "small" things, often have no problem lying about major things. I would definitely put the marriage proposal on hold for now. Also.....tell her that you know she was not with Justine like she said she was that day on the phone. Ask her why she wasn't truthful about that. Proceed with caution in this relationship from now on. Good luck.

You should have put Justine on the phone as soon as you girlfriend said that; however, it's too late for that now. Tell her you know for a fact that she was not with Justine, and would she like to explain herself. Believe me, you don't want to get engaged with this hanging over your head. Either she tells you where she was or you end the relationship. Or, maybe, where she was will end the relationship. Either way, you don't want a lifetime of lying ahead of you.

My opinion if she is going lie to you about shopping… she will lie to always as it comes to say for her now. After 25 yrs married I have learned that trust…is just a word and only trust one soul… YOURS!

If it lessens your trust, you gotta run. You will 2nd guess everything she ever says. If she's late for a date or event, you'll go ape shit worrying what she's doing. If she accidentally gets a hang up phone call, you'll be skeptical. Once that trust is dented or broken, it just doesn't work. Been there.

I would say to your girlfriend, why are you lying. Justine is sitting my next to me, and again, who were you with. Try being honest. If you can't be honest with me and then we are done.

3 years & you think you know a person!! Then you find out she lying to you!!! You need to hold up about married her. Ppl has been together for 20 years and still they don't know that's person, their trust is going now they live a miserable life with that person!!!
