does the magic of a new place really fade over time?
Last summer, my husband and I spent a week in Asheville, North Carolina. The mountain views were breathtaking, the air felt so fresh, and every little café seemed to have the best coffee I’d ever tasted. By the third day, I was already saying, “We should just move here!” But then I started wondering—am I just caught up in the vacation mood, or would I actually love living there once the novelty wears off?
I keep thinking about all the other places I’ve visited and thought the same thing—like Portland, Maine, or even Sedona, Arizona. But then reality hits: would I still love it after a few months of grocery shopping, paying bills, and dealing with local quirks? Or would I start missing the familiar things back home, like my favorite bagel shop or the way my neighbor always waves?
Has anyone actually packed up and moved to a place they fell in love with on vacation? Did the charm stick around, or did it start to feel just like anywhere else after a while? I’m torn between wanting a fresh start and worrying I’ll just end up missing what I already have. Would love to hear some real stories—did the honeymoon phase last, or did reality set in?
