Facing Sudden Layoff in Financial Consulting—What Should I Do Next? 😰
Hey everyone, I could really use some advice right now. I joined a financial consulting firm in Chicago two years ago, straight out of college. Because of some personal issues, I had to work remotely for a few months, but I was upfront with my employer about it. Ever since I returned to the office, things have felt off—colleagues seem distant, and I haven’t been assigned any new projects for weeks, even after getting great feedback on my last case.
Now, with the economy slowing down and our private equity clients pulling back, business has dried up. I reached out to HR about new work, but got a cold "Nothing new." Today, they scheduled a meeting with me and another HR rep, and I have a sinking feeling I’m about to be laid off. I’m anxious and honestly don’t know what to expect or how to prepare.
If you’ve been through something similar, what should I ask in this meeting? How can I set myself up for a comeback? I’d really appreciate any advice or encouragement right now. 🙏
