Bay Area Food | Thai Breakfast with Tom Yum Soup Congee and Youtiao

🍲 Kan Kiin 📍 201 Southgate Ave, Daly City, CA 94015 ▫️ The newcomer to the Bay Area's Thai breakfast scene is definitely eye-catching, with its deep green color scheme and modern decor. The combination of Thai breakfast style and contemporary design is impressive, although the taste may not be as outstanding as expected. ▫️ The aesthetics are on point, from the utensils to the food itself. I love their simple yet stylish tableware collection. ▫️ We tried some of the recommended dishes, but feel free to explore other options. The dishes are decently prepared, nothing too extraordinary or disappointing. ✅ "JOK" Crispy Pork Belly The Tom Yum flavored congee is a must-try! Especially on a cold winter morning, it warms both the heart and stomach. The tangy and savory rice porridge paired with Youtiao is a delightful combination. It gives me inspiration to recreate this as my own breakfast! ✅ "HAT YAI" Fried Chicken & Vanilla Waffle Although it claims to be Thai-style fried chicken and waffle, there isn't a distinct Thai flavor. It's simply a regular fried chicken and waffle, decent but lacking any strong uniqueness. It feels a bit off considering it's supposed to be Thai breakfast. ▫️ One downside of this place is that it's quite cold inside... 🥶 Even after eating, it doesn't warm up. Lately, it seems like every restaurant I go to is freezing, not sure if it's just me... 🥶 #BayAreaLife #GlobalFoodies #WeekendInBayArea #Breakfast #ThisIsWhatIEat #MyBreakfast #WhatToEatForBreakfast #BayAreaCuisine #HiddenGemRestaurants #SanFranciscoFood

OMG Cottage Cheese in Scrambled Eggs, A Total Texture Upgrade

Mixing cottage cheese into scrambled eggs is something I picked up after seeing it online, and it’s wild how much it changes the texture. The eggs come out super creamy, almost like a custard, but without being heavy. I usually crack three eggs, add a heaping spoonful of cottage cheese, a pinch of salt, and whisk it all together until it’s smooth. Pour it into a nonstick pan on low heat and keep stirring gently. The key is not to rush it—low and slow keeps everything tender. Another add-in that’s made a difference is a splash of sriracha or chili crisp right at the end. It gives the eggs a little kick and some extra flavor. Chopped fresh herbs like chives or dill can also change things up. For a more savory twist, I’ll sometimes fold in sautéed mushrooms or spinach before the eggs are fully set. #EggHacks #Breakfast #KitchenTips #ScrambledEggs #CottageCheese #Food #Cooking

Tips for 60s Microwave Scrambled Eggs, super fast and never fails!

I crack 2 eggs straight into a microwave-safe mug, add a splash of milk, a pinch of salt, and whisk it all up with a fork. After that, it’s just a quick zap—30 seconds, stir, then another 20-30 seconds until they’re just set. The texture comes out surprisingly fluffy, not rubbery at all. Sometimes I’ll toss in a handful of shredded cheese or some chopped scallions before microwaving. If there’s leftover ham or spinach in the fridge, that goes in too. 🌟The key is not to overcook—eggs keep cooking a bit after coming out, so stopping when they’re slightly glossy works best. This method is a solid go-to for anyone who wants a hot breakfast without the hassle of pans and stovetops. #Microwave tips #Quick meals #Breakfast #ScrambledEggs #KitchenHacks #Food #Cooking

Why we Americans Go So Hard for Breakfast?

Walking into a classic American breakfast spot, you’re hit with the smell of sizzling bacon, the clatter of plates, and a menu that could double as a small novel. There’s something relentless about the way the USA does breakfast—waffles, pancakes, omelets, hash browns, and bottomless coffee, all before noon. After traveling through Europe and Asia, it’s wild how rare it is to find a place outside North America that treats breakfast like a full-blown event. Most countries lean into bakeries or cafés, maybe a croissant or a bowl of noodles, but nothing that rivals the sheer scale of a diner’s breakfast menu. That’s a whole different beast. No restaurants will offer such a high-calorie breakfast, except for ours. Sometimes it feels like the rest of the world is missing out on this chaotic, greasy, and oddly satisfying ritual. #BreakfastCulture #AmericanDiners #Breakfast #Food
