Iceland Was Beautiful. I Was Numb.
Everyone told me Iceland would blow my mind. It did—just not the way I expected. The landscapes were wild, sure: black sand, steam rising from the earth, waterfalls that looked fake even in person. But I was standing there, phone in hand, feeling nothing. Not awe, not joy—just a weird emptiness, like I’d left something behind in another country, or maybe in a version of myself I can’t get back to.
It’s easy to chase the next place, thinking it’ll fix whatever’s off. Iceland was proof that sometimes you’re the only thing out of place, no matter how unreal the view is.
