Treasure Hunting with Kids at NorCal's Biggest Outdoor Antique Market 🌈

The antique market located on Alameda Island proudly claims to be the largest in Northern California! It only opens on the first Sunday each month, from the early 6 AM until the midday 3 PM. Adult entrance fees are $10, and kids under 16 go in for free! Today, we brought our kid to look for treasures, and before we started, we filled him in on stories of people striking it rich, like finding a priceless work of art at an antique market or getting a diamond for the price of a crystal. He was so excited he couldn't wait to start exploring, totally convinced that he was destined for great finds [laugh-cry emoji]. The market is called Antiques Faire, and its thing is that all items have to be 40 years old or older. They're not too strict about that though; there are items younger than 40 years. Items for sale include (but are not limited to) jewelry, trinkets, furniture, kitchenware, clothes, rugs, and so much more. The prices are reasonable and negotiable! Here are some of the things we scored: *A brand-new 24k gold wristwatch from 1983 (see pic 8). It has 1G of gold, listed for $249, but we talked it down to $150. We checked the gold price at home and found out it's roughly $80/G. So we struck gold and profited about $70 [laugh-cry emoji]. *A natural garnet necklace (see pic 8). It's a little short so it can be worn as a choker or wrap twice as a bracelet, all for $10. We couldn't negotiate this price. No biggie, we bought it anyway. *A pure silver knife (see pic 9). My little brother chose this shiny dining knife, initially $10. When checking out, the seller saw the Sterling Stamp on the knife and tried to revoke the deal but gave in for the kid's sake. This was quite an oversight on their part because based on its weight it was worth more than $10! On top of these, we also got a ceramic bunny figurine set for my sister. It started at $15, and the kid did well to bargain it down to $10. Good deal! Anyone interested can come and check it out. #TreasureHunting #NorCalAntiqueMarket #OutdoorMarket #FamilyFun #VintageFinds #BargainHunting #HiddenGems #AntiqueTreasures

can seeds from the 80s and 90s still grow or am i just planting hope?

So my coworker handed me a bunch of old seed packets—like, seriously vintage. We’re talking 1988, 1996, and 1998. I couldn’t resist the challenge. I tossed a few into some soil, watered them, and crossed my fingers. I’ve heard that storing seeds in a cool, dry place helps them last, so I figured, why not give it a shot? Watching for sprouts is half the fun. I check every morning, hoping for that first green peek. Even if only a couple make it, it feels like I’m bringing a little piece of the past back to life. It’s wild how gardening can turn something forgotten into a tiny miracle. If you ever find old seeds, don’t toss them—try planting and see what happens! gardening #plantlife #seedstarting #vintagefinds #gardening #plantlife #seedstarting #vintagefinds
