Kawhi’s 2019 Series vs the Sixers Deserves Way More Credit

Kawhi Leonard’s performance against Philly in the 2019 playoffs doesn’t get nearly enough credit. Everyone remembers the game 7 buzzer-beater, but the whole series was an absolute masterclass. Kawhi averaged 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists on a crazy 63.4 TS%. And it wasn’t just the stats—he put up those numbers while being guarded by elite defenders like Jimmy Butler and Ben Simmons, and had to finish at the rim over Joel Embiid. Toronto’s playmaking and shooting were rough that series. Outside of Kawhi, the team only averaged 15 assists a game and shot 29% from deep. Honestly, you could see other Raptors players hesitating or passing up good shots—Kawhi really carried the offense and still brought A-level defense every night as the team’s top option.
