I Teach, But I Can't Afford My Own Classroom

I spent my Sunday night scrubbing desks and taping up faded posters, trying to make this room look like someone cared. The school gave me nothing—no supplies, no budget, just a list of expectations and a smile. I bought everything you see here with my own money. Dollar store bins, off-brand markers, even the soap in the bathroom. Every year I tell myself it’ll get easier, that maybe this time someone will notice how much I give. But no one does. The kids deserve better, but all I can give is what’s left after rent and bills.
