Walking the Devil’s Slide Trail: Everything You Need to Know

🌊 Walking the Devil’s Slide Trail: Everything You Need to Know 🚶‍♀️ 📍The Devil’s Slide Trail is an easy coastal walk with breathtaking ocean views, located between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay’s Coastside. It's part of the California Coastal trail, which aims to make the entire state's coastline walkable. Here's everything you need to know about this stunning hike: 🗺️ Where is the Devil's Slide? - The northern edge of the Devil’s Slide starts in southern Pacifica, just before Highway One enters the Tom Lantos tunnel. - The southern end starts where Highway One emerges from the tunnel, near Gray Whale Cove State Beach Park. ⏰ How Long is the Trail? - It's a 1.2 mile one-way hike or a 2.4 mile round trip from the north end parking lot to the south end parking lot. 👹 Why is it Called the Devil’s Slide? - Positioned between San Pedro Ridge and Montara Mountain, the Devil's Slide is a 900-foot cliff consisting of shale and sandstone. Its erosion-prone nature is the reason behind its devilish name. 🚗 Where to Park at Devil’s Slide? - There are limited parking spots: 13 on the north end and 24 on the south end. Arrive early or late to secure a spot. Parking lots are open from 8am to dusk. 🚌 Can I Take the Bus to Devil’s Slide? - Taking the #17 Samtrans bus is an option, but it runs every two hours on weekends, making it not very practical. 🔍 What to Watch Out For on the Trail: 1️⃣ Nesting Sea Birds: Keep an eye out for Peregrine Falcons, Pigeon Guillemots, Brandt’s Cormorants, Common Murres, and Western Gulls. 2️⃣ Marine Mammals: Look for migratory Gray and Humpback Whales, Elephant Seals, Sea Lions, and various species of dolphins. 3️⃣ Watch the Waves: Find benches and lookout scopes along the trail to admire the mesmerizing waves. 4️⃣ WWII Bunkers: Explore an old WWII air defense bunker near the parking lot, but be cautious as the cliffs are not stable. Experience the beauty of Devil's Slide Trail, a coastal gem offering stunning ocean views and abundant wildlife. 🌅 #DevilsSlideTrail #CaliforniaCoastalTrail #HikingCalifornia #OceanViews #WildlifeWatch #PacificCoast #TrailBlazers #ExploreNature #CaliforniaHiking #CoastalBeauty

York Trail at Leona Heights Park: Immerse Myself in It

My recent hike in Leona Heights Park definitely gave our redwood hikes a run for their money. Located just off Highway 13 in the Oakland Hills, the York Trail at Leona Heights Park is a hidden gem that offers beautiful hiking opportunities. Here's why you should check it out: 🌿 Easy Accessibility: - Situated near the Leona Lodge at 4444 Mountain Blvd in Oakland, the trail entrance is conveniently located and easily accessible. 🌉 Bridges and Creek: - The hike boasts a series of bridges, which is a major hit for kids (and adults too!). - You'll also encounter a flowing creek, creating a serene and peaceful ambiance. 🌳 Immersed in Nature: - Within minutes of stepping onto the trail, you'll feel transported into nature's embrace. The sounds of the nearby freeway and city streets fade away, leaving you surrounded by the wonders of the natural world. 👶 Perfect for Kids: - The trail is suitable for adventurous little ones. - With opportunities to cross bridges, navigate tree roots, and climb rocks, it's a great way to engage them in the outdoors. 💪 Safety Precautions: - Although the majority of the trail is safe for independent walking, there are sections with narrow paths and drops. Hand-holding may be necessary in these areas, especially for smaller children. 🔃 Loop Option: - At the top of the York trail, you'll connect with a wide fire trail. - You can either turn around and return the way you came, or continue onto the fire trail and follow the neighborhood roads back to the parking lot. - The round trip to the top is approximately two-thirds of a mile. Enjoy the magic of the York Trail at Leona Heights Park and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. Happy hiking! 🌲🚶‍♀️ #HikingAdventures #OaklandHills #NatureTrail #FamilyFriendly #OutdoorFun #ScenicViews #ExploringNature #GetOutside #TrailBlazers #LeonaHeightsPark"
