Many of our best teachers leave for neighboring states, where they’re paid more and treated better. This brain drain leaves our schools struggling, and our students pay the price. We’re also at the bottom for student test scores. While test scores aren’t everything, they do reflect deeper issues—overworked teachers, underfunded schools, and a system that isn’t setting our kids up for success.
