While the Jackson Police Department initially claimed they could not identify him or reach his family, investigations revealed he had his state ID card with his home address in his wallet, along with a prescription bottle bearing his name. Despite this, his mother, Bettersten Wade Robinson , was not notified for 172 days, during which time Dexter was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave (Grave No. 672) at the Hinds County penal farm.
