The problem with SNAP is that it's become a dependency instead of temporary assistance.

In 1996, the program used to be called TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) How long can you stay on TANF? 60 months TANF lifetime limits determine how long a participant can receive TANF benefits. TANF is limited at the federal level to a total of 60 months (or five years). The problem with that program was the welfare office didn't enforce school or work programs. Those receiving benefits easily made receiving benefits a career. I remain steadfast IMO, that SNAP should be limited to the elderly disabled & veterans. Govt dependency doesn't fix the problem. The working poor do have options; there are free vocational programs to aid in gainful employment, and or education. Why should anyone do it when it's just as easy to keep accepting benefits with out an expiration? 45-50yrs ago while there was welfare benefits many weren't aware, most ppl worked several jobs to make ends meet, there was no gov't dependency. During the 80's there were single mothers too, and they did it without welfaré benefits. The entitment videos I've been seeing irk the hell out of me, where there's been threats to loot, rob/steal from homes --- it's sickening. It's time for ppl to help themselves. #SNAPBenefits #SNAPLife #SNAPTalk

Hungry Kids Aren’t Collateral — Fund SNAP Now

I’ve been debating whether to post this, but I can’t stay quiet. I’ve needed CalFresh (SNAP) before. I know what it feels like to depend on that card just to eat. It’s not politics — it’s survival. When people turn assistance into a political issue, things get nasty fast. Words like “welfare queen” start flying, and suddenly we’re not talking about hungry families anymore — we’re victimizing the poor. Worse, we’re demeaning people who already have it rough. Now, because of the government shutdown, SNAP funding is being treated like collateral. These politicians — Trump, Johnson, Pelosi, Schumer — they’re all playing a game while real people pay the price. There’s only about two weeks of emergency funds left. After that, families won’t know where their next meal is coming from. Kids will go hungry because adults in Washington want leverage. I’m not perfect. I’ve done wrong in my life. But even at my worst, I wouldn’t have taken food out of a child’s mouth. What’s their excuse? Call your Congressman. Call your Senators. Tell them if they’re not going to fund the government, at least fund SNAP — or they’ll lose your vote. Tell them to stop holding hungry kids hostage. No more games with people’s food. “The Hidden Medicaid Rule Behind the Shutdown: What Section 2141 Really Means for Legal Immigrants”

#SNAPBenefits #SNAPLife #SNAPTalkGovernment #GovernmentShutdown #Medicaid #ImmigrationPolicy #Section2141 #HealthcareDebate #NewsUpdate #Congress #PublicHealth #AffordableCareShutdown Debate Centers on Section 2141 — The Hidden Medicaid Rule Affecting Legal Immigrants As the government shutdown continues, one small section of a large funding bill is getting big attention — Section 2141. This part of the bill deals with Medicaid access for legal immigrants, and it’s become a major sticking point in negotiations between Democrats and Republicans. Section 2141 would restore Medicaid coverage for lawfully present immigrants who lost access years ago. It would also bring back funding for Emergency Medicaid, which helps hospitals care for uninsured patients, including some immigrants in life-or-death situations. Some critics have claimed the proposal gives free health care to undocumented immigrants, but that’s not true. Current law still blocks undocumented immigrants from enrolling in Medicaid or receiving ACA health subsidies. This rule only affects immigrants who are in the U.S. legally and meet federal residency requirements. Democrats say the change is needed to keep hospitals financially stable and make sure families with legal status don’t lose access to basic care. Republicans argue it would raise government costs and open the door to more federal spending on immigrants. The dispute over Section 2141 shows how one small policy detail can play a huge role in a national standoff. With no resolution in sight, millions of Americans are watching to see whether lawmakers can agree on a plan that keeps the government open — and decide what health care access should look like for those who are here legally but not yet citizens.

I am not here to play the blame game, we should as AMERICANS work together for solutions instead of arbitrary board opinions. For me the program helped me when I was down with kids at home. Working and going to school full time as I was trying to better support my kids. I feel as a whole the Snap program is a good benefit for those that struggle.Although it needs to have the preverbial tires kicked on it. There are those that I saw anyway that while I was buying clothes for my children at dept stores others camein wearing name brand clothes and driving nice cars. Now I don't judge because I don't know all the circumstances behind someone's life story and I have back to food banks and churches when I could after wards. But now on SSI I am troubled because I pay for Medicare on my own out of my checks so I get no hand out that many people think we do. There are many good people that need a hand up but do not need to depend on anything in life. #SNAPBenefits #SNAPLife #SNAPTalk
