I Didn’t Conquer Patagonia—It Undid Me
The W Trek is supposed to be epic. People talk about the views, the sense of achievement, the wild wind that makes you feel alive. What I remember most is how small I felt—shoulders aching, boots soaked, staring at mountains that didn’t care if I made it or not.
There’s a photo I never posted: me, red-faced and exhausted, grinning like I’d just survived something. I thought hiking Torres del Paine would change me, but mostly it stripped me down. I was just another body moving through weather, hungry for warmth, counting steps, learning what I could do without.
No revelation. Just the quiet relief of making it to the end, and the weird ache of wanting to do it all again.
