35mm Film vs iPhone: What the Photos Don’t Show
Olympic National Park, and I’m holding two versions of the same memory. One is a 35mm print—grainy, imperfect, the sky a little too blue. The other is my iPhone shot: crisp, edited, ready for the feed.
I want to say the film feels more real, but that’s a lie. Both are just guesses at what it felt like to stand there, damp socks, breath fogging, wondering if anyone else ever feels this split—wanting to remember, but also wanting to be seen remembering.
Maybe the real difference isn’t the camera. It’s what you hope the photo will prove, and who you hope will care.
