What Even IS This Space

Why do new houses sometimes look like a pre-teen designed them in The Sims 2? 😂😂😂 Just saw a pic of this baffling elevated platform above a half-bath entrance, visible from the stairs. It even has an outlet, but no way to actually get up there. Someone suggested it'd be perfect for a big big lamp or small-scale sculpture. But imagine waking up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, only to find the Venus de Milo just staring at you and waving her broken arm. 👻 Another solution?
