Parenting in 2024: So Much More Than Just Letting Kids Roam

Does anyone else feel like parenting today is a whole different ballgame compared to the 90s? I have a little one at home, and after listening to a podcast about how parents used to just send their kids outside for the day, I can’t help but feel a bit overwhelmed. Back then, kids would ride bikes all over town, and there wasn’t the constant worry about what they might find online or who they might meet. Now, it feels like every move needs supervision—both in real life and on screens. We’re a screen-free family for now, and my toddler spends hours outside, but I wonder how long I can keep this up. I dream of her having independence, but I also worry about safety, community, and the rising cost of living in good neighborhoods. Anyone else feeling this pressure? How are you finding balance? Would You Use a Tracker for Your Elementary Schooler?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about whether I’d ever get a tracker for my elementary-aged child. On one hand, the idea of always knowing where my child is brings a sense of comfort—especially with how unpredictable the world can feel. But I also wonder if it might make my child feel like I don’t trust them, or if it could take away from their sense of independence. I remember walking to school on my own as a kid, feeling so grown up and free. Now, as a parent, I’m torn between wanting to give my child that same freedom and wanting to keep them safe. Would you consider using a tracker for your child? Or do you think it’s better to let them explore without one? Share your thoughts below! #ParentingChoices #FamilySafety #ModernParenting #Parenting
