One-day Furniture Adventure in San Francisco

🌟 Room and Board - A store with a focus on mid-century modern furniture. They currently have a scratch card promotion where you can get up to 50% off. I was torn on what to buy and ended up leaving empty-handed, afraid that I might miss out on a better deal. 🌟 EQ3 - A Canadian brand that offers a mix of Scandinavian and modern furniture. They also have the scratch card promotion, and I spent a while contemplating what I might miss out on if I got a 50% discount. In the end, I left with nothing and hurried to catch the bullet train home. 🌟 BoConcept - This store offers modern and minimalist Scandinavian furniture. They have a great selection of floor models with significant discounts. They even have a small children's area called Flexa, filled with adorable toys that made me want to use them myself. There's also a BoConcept location in Santana Row and another one at the Stanford shopping center in South Bay. Now, onto the stores I couldn't afford but was highly impressed by: 🌟 Dzine - This store showcases a combination of high-end art and furniture. It feels like walking through a free art gallery. I could easily spend hours here, and I wish there were more stores like this. However, the price tags are no joke, with all the items being in the high four figures. Gotta start earning more 💪. They also offer discounts on floor models, but even with the discount, they're still quite pricey. 🌟 Linge Rest - A store that focuses on selling the original versions of popular furniture designs and exposes the knockoff industry. Unfortunately, it closed early on the day of my visit, but I'm sure there are many other beautiful stores in the same building. 🌟 B&B Italia - Just had to stop by and admire the Camaleonda sofa. #SanFrancisco #FurnitureShopping #Design #HomeDecor #WindowShopping #InsiderTips #FurnitureStores #HighEndFurniture #ModernDesign #ScandinavianDesign

Desert Minimalism Meets Modern Icons in Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico Legacy

Georgia O’Keeffe’s adobe retreat in Abiquiú wasn’t just a home—it was a living gallery where desert bones mingled with modernist classics. This May, Herman Miller channels that unique blend with a furniture collection echoing O’Keeffe’s New Mexico sanctuary. Each piece nods to her friendships with design legends: the Eameses, who gifted her a low-slung chair she adored, and Alexander Girard, whose snake motif slithered into her interiors. The revived Eames Wire Chair Low Base, now dressed in Girard’s ochre-striped textile, resurrects a one-of-a-kind prototype once reserved for O’Keeffe herself. Alongside it, the Girard Snake Table finally brings a long-dormant sketch to life, its enamel top swirling with black serpentine lines. These limited editions don’t just furnish a room—they invite a dialogue between art, place, and the creative kinships that shaped American modernism. Sometimes, the soul of a landscape finds its way into the curve of a chair. #GeorgiaOKeeffe #ModernDesign #HermanMiller #Culture

Chairs Whisper: The Secret Language of Iconic Modern Design

A lounge chair inspired by a baseball mitt and a lamp that mimics the petals of an artichoke—modern design objects often carry stories far stranger than their sleek surfaces suggest. Take the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, which reimagined luxury as ergonomic comfort, or Florence Knoll’s Lounge Collection, originally meant to be background pieces but now celebrated as minimalist masterpieces. Isamu Noguchi’s coffee table blurs the line between sculpture and furniture, while Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Table banishes the clutter of table legs with a single, sweeping pedestal. Meanwhile, the playful geometry of Ettore Sottsass’s Carlton Bookcase turns humble materials into a riot of color and meaning, challenging what luxury can look like. Each piece, whether born from Bauhaus rationality or Space Age whimsy, transforms everyday living into a gallery of innovation. In the world of design, even the simplest seat can become a conversation starter—if you know how to listen. #ModernDesign #IconicFurniture #DesignHistory #Culture
