Walnut Creek Trip • Climbing Mount Diablo Beacon

Spent an hour driving through the entire Mount Diablo State Park. This park is something special, it got me so respectful that I'm jotting down my notes eagerly! Below the elevation of 2000ft, I assumed it was just a lush green landscape, offering sceneries no less appealing than the national parks in Bay Area's very own "Little Switzerland". But as I climbed higher towards the peak, the view got progressively grander. The guardrail-free highways became increasingly steep! When I reached 3000ft, I was close to giving up, yet curiosity kept me wondering how high this mountain is. I ended up making it to the peak of Mount Diablo Beacon at 3849ft! There stands a stone fortress, initially built in 1928. During WW2, when communications were less advanced, it served as a watchtower, where soldiers would station and stay vigilant of enemy aircraft. Even though it's long been deserted in this era of peace, every 12/7 they light the fortress to honor the souls lost in the battle of Pearl Harbor. "Left Dark By War, Lighted in Remembrance!" In conclusion, a very educative park that makes you cherish the precious peace we have. Cost: $10 admission fee. Heads up: Don't try hiking! The park's vast, driving is more realistic! 🚩Mount Diablo State Park - North Gate Entrance 1300 N Gate Rd, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 #WalnutCreek #MountDiablo #Beacon #StatePark #LittleSwitzerland #WW2 #PearlHarbor #Remembrance
