Amsterdam’s Rain-Soaked Insomnia

Amsterdam after midnight, when the rain has finally given up, feels like a city that’s just for me. I’ve walked these canals more times than I can count, but it’s always the late hours—when the tourists are gone and the streetlights flicker on wet cobblestones—that I actually breathe. It’s not romantic. It’s not cinematic. It’s just quiet, and a little bit lonely, and I think that’s why I keep coming back. There’s a comfort in knowing a place so well that you can wander without thinking, soaked shoes and all.
