Big thanks to my buddy @FivemeterCandyBar for recommending the classic pet parrot store Basic Bird on Berkeley University Road, the kids absolutely loved it! The store may be small, but it has a great variety of parrots, all priced very reasonably! If you're interested in owning a parrot, you should definitely check this place out. Here’s how to whip up a batch of homemade sour gummies: Mix 1 cup of fruit juice, 1/4 cup of sugar, and 3 tablespoons of gelatin in a saucepan. Let it sit for a few minutes to bloom. Heat the mixture on low, stirring until everything dissolves. Don’t let it boil! Pour the liquid into silicone molds. Pop them in the fridge for about an hour. Once set, remove the gummies and toss them in a mix of citric acid and powdered sugar for that extra pucker. It’s super satisfying to tweak the sourness to your own taste. The veggies disappear into the sauce, and the texture stays smooth, which makes it easier for my family member to eat. Another thing that’s worked is making veggie-based curries. I’ll cook down cauliflower, sweet potato, and bell peppers until they’re super soft, then blend them with coconut milk and curry paste. This is why I totally totally can’t stand kids.

So, my coffee shop just had another batch of “damaged goods.” Checked the security footage and guess what? A little kid got his hands on a cookie and just went to town. He was shaking it like a maraca, squeezing it like a stress ball. By the end, it looked like cookie crumbs in a hurricane. Kids, man.
