Glaciers Are Literally Vanishing Fast

Imagine attending a funeral for a glacier. That actually happened in Switzerland, and it’s just the tip of the (melting) iceberg. New research says we’re heading for ‘peak glacier extinction’—up to 4,000 glaciers could disappear every year by the 2050s if climate change keeps heating up. That’s like losing all the glaciers in the Alps in just one year. Only a fraction will survive by 2100 unless we get serious about global warming.
