Fifteen years in the grind, a decade of that in big tech, and here I am—late thirties, just out of a breakup, staring at the Manhattan skyline from my overpriced apartment. My job pays well (think $400K), but lately, I feel like I’m running on autopilot.
Every day, I fantasize about just walking away for a year—traveling, working out, dating, maybe finally picking up those random hobbies I keep Googling at 2am. But then the fear creeps in: what if I come back and the industry’s moved on without me? What if my savings dry up faster than my motivation?
