people keep confusing czechia with chechnya or russia
I just got back from two weeks exploring Czechia, and let me tell you, the trip was incredible—beautiful old towns, friendly locals, and pastries that put my willpower to the test. But every time I mentioned my destination to friends or family who don’t travel much, I got the same baffled look. More than one person asked, “Why would you go to Russia right now?” or even, “Isn’t it dangerous in Chechnya?”
I tried explaining, but it’s like they’d never heard of Czechia before. I even pulled up a map at one point, but the confusion just got worse. It’s honestly a little frustrating—on one hand, I want to share my excitement, but on the other, I feel like I’m constantly correcting geography lessons from high school. Does anyone else get tired of people mixing up places you’ve visited? It makes me wonder if I should just say “Prague” next time and skip the hassle. I can’t be the only one who’s had to defend their travel choices because of someone else’s mix-up.
