Here is a man who just called down fire from heaven and slaughtered 450 prophets of Baal. But one death threat from Jezebel, and he runs into the wilderness, sits under a tree, and begs God to take his life. He was completely burnt out. What breaks me is God’s response. He didn't preach a sermon. He didn't tell Elijah to "pray harder" or "have more faith." God sent an angel to bake him warm bread, gave him water, and let him sleep. Twice. Sometimes, the most spiritual thing we can do in our darkest, most anxious moments is just rest. God isn't angry at our exhaustion.
