Blackstone Griddle Cleaning & Seasoning Made Simple
First time using your Blackstone? Wash it with hot, soapy water and a lint-free cloth to remove the shipping coating. This is the only time you’ll ever use soap on it.
Dry it off, then spread 2–3 tablespoons of cooking oil (flax, canola, or olive oil work great) in a thin, even layer. Heat on high until the oil stops smoking—about 10–15 minutes. Repeat this 2–3 times for a slick, black finish.
After each cook, while the griddle’s still hot, scrape off food and oil with a metal scraper. For stuck-on bits, pour on some water to steam them off. Wipe dry, then add a thin layer of oil to keep it seasoned and rust-free.
If you ever spot rust, heat the griddle, scrape, scrub with oil and a grill brick, then re-season. Maintenance is easy if you stay on top of it!
