Philippians 4:8 Paul gives us a list, a daily list. He encourages us to live in unity, always rejoice in the Lord, wear selflessness as a cloak to be seen by others and be anxious for nothing. We’re to pray always with thanksgiving to God and take hold of God‘s peace, the state of a soul assured of its salvation through Jesus, a soul that fears nothing from God and is content with its earthly lot. Paul encourages us us to put away any ‘Stinkin’ thinkin’. Regrets from the past, guilt and condemnation and anxiety for things that may never happen. It’s as if God puts His hands on either side of our face, drawing our gaze to Himself. He tells us ‘Look at Me, focus on Me. I am True, honorable, just and pure. I am Love and Grace. Just breathe…’. The Holy Spirit trains us to focus on the goodness of God, even when things are hard and we can’t see the Him. We’re encouraged, reminded, to fix our mind on the things worthy of praise. It isn’t always easy. We imagine the battlefield, Flesh and Emotion are coming hard and fast against the Spirit. When they stand, toe to toe, the Spirit towers over its adversaries. Songs of Truth and of God‘s goodness flow from the tongue of the Spirit. Flesh and Emotion flee as another victory in the Spirit is won. Leaving the battlefield we find refuge, we’re revived, our strength is renewed. We know, without a doubt that our thoughts have more to do with who He is in us, and who we are in this world than it does with our perception of the things around us. Lord, it’s the helmet of salvation You’ve provided to protect our mind and keeps us focused on You. Thank You.
