2 Timothy 2:15 Paul knows, as he writes this second letter to Timothy, his ‘son’ in the faith, his time is short. He chooses to encourage Timothy to be strong and unwavering in the Truth and to study God’s Word, to be as a workman who has no cause to be ashamed. Godly character is skillfully woven into his instruction. Paul encourages Timothy to conform to the will of God in thought, word and deed, to pursue faith, love and peace in the fellowship of believers. To be kind to everyone, mild tempered, a skillful teacher, patient and willing to suffer wrong. Studying Jesus, the Word of God, is powerful, necessary to know what godly character truly is in the eyes of God. We study, we ‘eat the scrolls’, the very Word of God, just as Ezekiel, Jeremiah and John did. We take in the nourishment of the Word, receiving its power, its strength and wisdom for whatever we face. Without it, being patient, having the strength to endure and the ability to preserve peace wouldn’t be possible. We read Paul’s letter to Timothy and are encouraged to study. We’re desperately aware of how much we need Him to be godly, to imitate Him and to accomplish His purpose through us. So we come before him, excited to learn… More. We’ll know it’s time to get up when He says ‘Class is over for today. Now go in My strength and power. Be who I’ve called you to be and do what I’ve called you to do.’ Lord, today, whether sharing our faith or being tested, would You find us imitating You. We’re eager to present ourselves to You as followers of Jesus. Help us handle Your Word in what You’ve already established as True. Fill us with Your Wisdom and understanding. Keep us from misusing Your Word and leading others astray. May our confidence be in You alone.
