China Unveils 13-Foot-Tall Humanoid Robot Built for Heavy Industrial Work China has unveiled Neo1, a massive 13-foot-tall humanoid robot developed by Beijing-based startup NeodraDynamics in collaboration with JD Industrial. Weighing approximately 2,650 pounds (1,200 kg), the machine is designed to handle dangerous and physically demanding industrial tasks. Showcased at the 2026 China International Industry Fair in Shanghai, Neo1 stands apart from smaller humanoid robots with its enormous size, heavy-duty construction, and powerful lifting capabilities. Neo1 can reportedly lift a combined 1,102 pounds (500 kg) using both arms, while its specialized hands deliver a gripping force of 500 kgf. The robot features 41 active degrees of freedom, including 39 joints powered by compact digital hydraulic actuators that function like artificial muscles. Two additional electric drives control forearm rotation, combining strength with precise movement. NeodraDynamics also claims a repeatable positioning accuracy of ±0.005 millimeters (0.0002 inches). The robot is designed for industrial workloads described as the "4Ds": dangerous, dirty, difficult, and dull. Its proposed applications include maintaining equipment at nuclear power plants, supporting mining operations, and clearing debris during disaster response. Neo1 could also assist with assembling heavy manufacturing components and handling cargo at ports. These capabilities are intended to reduce human exposure to hazardous environments while improving efficiency in physically demanding operations. Source: NeodraDynamics, PR Newswire, Rocking Robots
