Psalm 55:22 “Listen to my prayer, O God, and hide not Yourself from my supplication! Attend to me and answer me; I am restless and distraught in my complaint and must moan, and I am distracted at the noise of the enemy“… David felt the sting of betrayal, describing his heart as being grievously pained within him. Where did David go for comfort…for peace? “As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord will save me.“ David maps out the journey, from its starting point to its destination. The map is exhaustive, including all the highlights and points of interest along the way. Suffering, pain, and oppression, not physical, but here, in this song, it’s emotional. David knows what to do, where to go, Who to give his burden to. He doesn’t lay it down in front of another ‘distraction’… he takes it to the One Who can release the weight of it, the One Who not only removes it but gives strength, courage, and wisdom not to pick it back up again. David calls for the destruction of wickedness, we don’t know if there was a change of heart in the one who betrayed him…but we do know at the end of his journey, when David reached his destination, he’d put his trust in and confidently relied on God to keep him from falling. The end of the ‘story’ isn’t necessarily recounting an amended relationship with men, but rather it’s a strengthened relationship with God, growing in faith. Learning to trust Him with…all of it…this. Perhaps the only thing that changes on the ‘journey’ is the one who chose to start it to begin with. It begins with a Choice, do we allow ourselves to be distracted, to wallow in Self-Pity? Or do we rise and walk in the spirit of righteousness, craving His presence? Lord, we choose You… thank You for being…here, for changing our heart, for strengthening us, for providing Your compassion and mercy and grace.
