Luke 12:15 ‘Guard yourselves… keep free from all covetousness, the longing to have more’… and ‘…do not seek by meditating and reasoning to inquire into what you are to eat, and what you are to eat drink; or be of anxious, troubled or of unsettled mind’. ‘Only aim at, strive for and seek His kingdom, and all these things will be supplied to you also’. Have we realized the lie in the worldly concept, “the one who dies with the most toys wins“? The ‘roller coaster’ ride itself is deadly. How do we guard ourselves against the deceit of the current ruler of this world? Can we hear the still small voice telling us to ‘Let go…and let God…’? Is the Sword of the Spirit, the very Word of God in our hand? Can we wield it skillfully and in the strength and power given to us by God? He knows what we’re up against, He’s given us everything we need to stand firm in righteousness. The Armor of God protects us from a frontal assault. Our backside, however, requires trusting our Rear Guard, our Provider, our Protector, to keep us safe. ‘His Peace, which transcends all understanding, shall mount guard over our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.’ His Word covers us, guards us, fills us with His Strength and Power. Guarding our heart is a 24/7 job. The enemy is poised, ready to steal, kill and destroy the trust we have in God as our Provider. Our enemy never sleeps. Guarding our hearts is trusting in God, surrendering everything to Him, and walking away from the glittery, sparkly, enticing things of this world. Lord, thank you for being our Protector and Provider. Help us to not get distracted by the things of this world and to trust You with everything we need.
