Proverbs 18:21 They followed Him, and He called them out “You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil, wicked? For out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks… For by your words, you will be justified and acquitted and by your words, you will be condemned and sentenced.” There’s no misunderstanding Jesus’ meaning concerning the words we speak. As a reminder, James, likening the tongue to a rudder, tells us our words are a choice, causing us to question how we can bless God and curse men with the same tongue. Can good flow from evil or evil flow from good? The wisdom we live by is both death and life are in the power of the tongue. We ‘eat to the full’ of the fruit of our mouth, we live with the consequences of our words…and are satisfied. How satisfied are we… with our words? We’re called to speak truth, encourage and edify. Our words matter. Do they bring God, glory and pleasure? Once we release them, they can never be ‘unheard’, they echo throughout time. They can change the course of someone’s tomorrows. Lord, may the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart be pleasing to You, my Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Reveal to us how we’ve offended You with our words, convict our hearts. May we be quick to ask forgiveness of those You bring to mind.
