For most of human history, a sunset on another planet was something we could only imagine. Now we can actually see it. NASA rovers have captured real sunsets from the surface of Mars, including Spirit from Gusev Crater and Curiosity from Gale Crater. Unlike Earth’s warm orange sunsets, Martian sunsets can appear bluish near the Sun because fine dust in the thin Martian atmosphere scatters light differently. It is a quiet image, but it carries a huge meaning. A sunset used to be something only Earth could show us. Now, another planet has shared its evening sky.
