Bradford pears are finally getting the boot in Charleston! Those stinky, storm-prone trees that seem to pop up everywhere can now be swapped for free native trees, thanks to the 2026 Bradford Pear Bounty. If you’ve got up to five Bradford or Chinese tallow trees, you can trade them in for healthier, local species at the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market on February 28. This is a big win for local wildlife and our neighborhoods—no more foul-smelling blooms or brittle branches. Spots are limited, so check scfc.gov to register.
