Once I ran into a relative by marriage at the grocery store. She told me there was a sale on lobster and she was going to get several. Since I knew she was on food stamps as a result of being an unemployed drug addict became resentful because I never, in my long lifetime, had been able to afford lobster. It was all I could do to say, Oh, that’s nice. I think I steamed going home. However, I later learned that she gave all the lobsters to her parents as a thank you for taking care of her toddler daughter any time she was too incapable of doing so. I immediately regretted my harsh thoughts at the store and realized she was not bragging but showing empathy for her parents. But I still wished I could have purchased lobster. How should I have better handled this incident?
