I've worked hard my whole life sometimes as many as three jobs at once and I always told myself I'd never use foodstamps or medicaid and I didn't untill I was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer, got 1 month into treatments, and my husband left me for my cousin. Life gets rough and sometimes you do need help. I think it's important how you use that help though so you don't take advantage and there's enough help for others who really need it. I had 4 kids to provide for and I was too sick to work for awhile but I did not spend recklessly or fill out paperwork fraudulently to recieve more than I needed and when well again, back to work I went!
