Refusing to lend $40,000, losing a good friend

My friend asked me to borrow $40,000 last Saturday, but I didn't lend it to him. I suggested that he go out to work and earn money. He ignored me for the next few days. I just called him to ask for clarification. The other party was cold and said that he asked me for help when he was in the most difficult time. He thought we were so familiar with each other, and I understood him and believed him. He said that if he borrowed from his brothers, he would definitely get it, but he didn't want to ask because his brothers were married and had families. He said that because of what happened, he would not chat with me like before. There was nothing to talk about. To be honest, it was very sad. We went through a lot together, but in the end, it was all about money. I hope everyone will not encounter this~ #LendMoney #Experience #GoodFriend

Never loan money with the expectation of ever getting it back. If you can't afford to give it away, don't loan it in the first place. 9 times out of 10, you'll never see it again.

Who has an extra $40,000 laying around? That's a big ask. You should expect a no from most anyone, shouldn't distance yourself from your friends because they didn't lend you $

This isn't a true friend. He is guilting you to loan an actual person's salary. By saying his brother's had families so he would not ask if them to give him the 40k is an indication that he wasn't planning to pay it back. If the banks find him a risk so should you. You're not going to see that money back. Better him not talking to you with 40k still in your possession.

Sorry come again
He won’t ask either of his brothers because he’s probably screwed them over on paying them back. You gave him the right answer.

Well, honestly if you loaned him the money you would be out the money and still lost the friend so you cut your loses.

He sounds like a friend..!? That wanted to take advantage of his friendship..!? If I loan money..!? It's because it's on my heart.. I don't expect to get it back..✌️

Yada Yada Yada!
Family/relatives ARE the WORSE people to loan money too. They come all humble and pitiful—Once they get it—They go MIA or catch a case of amnesia 👍🏼

you did the right thing, not borrowing him so much money.... pretty crappy that he would end the friendship over it but it's obvious he really wasn't much of a friend in the first place. count your blessings.....🙏
