Dubrovnik’s Walls Didn’t Make Me Feel Taller

Everyone says the city walls are the best view in Dubrovnik. They’re not wrong. You get the sea, the red roofs, the illusion of being above it all. But walking those stones, sweating under the sun, I realized I was just circling the same old thoughts. I watched cruise ship crowds pose for photos, couples fighting over maps, a kid crying for ice cream. I kept waiting for the view to shift something inside me. It didn’t. I took the same photo as everyone else and deleted it later. Sometimes, the most beautiful places don’t fix what you bring with you.
