did pool water just eat my earrings?

Is this real?? I've been swimming for years and never realized just how harsh pool water can be — until I came across this. Someone accidentally wore her earrings into the pool, and after the swim, she scratched her ear… and three earrings literally crumbled. It was a smaller indoor pool, possibly with high chlorine concentration or just poor water quality.
