George Washington wasn’t the first president?

Yes, really. George Washington was the first president elected under the terms of the US Constitution. But before that, the Articles of Confederation required a 'President of the United States in Congress Assembled' to serve a one-year term. The first of eight men to take up the baton was John Hanson (pictured), who served from 5 November 1781 until 3 November 1782. In just 12 months, he set up the Treasury and the Foreign Affairs Department and removed all foreign troops. #History
