Why Boomers Won’t Budge From Their Homes

Did you know a third of Baby Boomers say they’ll never sell their homes? Most have lived there for over 16 years, love their digs, and don’t want to swap a low mortgage for today’s sky-high rates. The catch? This “house hoarding” means fewer homes for younger buyers, making it even tougher for millennials and Gen Z to find a place. If you’re house hunting, patience (and maybe a side hustle) is key! #RealEstate #HomeBuying #Boomers

The homes most of us live in are not “starter homes”. You think we still live in the first place we bought? No, we worked our way through life, made good decisions and didn’t buy all the crap you spend your money on today. Skip the Starbucks, eating out and designer labels.

That’s not “house hoarding”. It’s our house! House hoarding would be a millionaire or a corporation buying hundreds of homes and not selling them so they can drive up house prices.

Doesn’t make sense. If we move we would move into a house that’s already available to buy. Just buy that one and leave us alone to enjoy our home it took 30 years to pay for.

I'm a home owner, a baby boomer, and a liberal. It's not a political problem, it's basically economic iniquality that didn't exist to this extent decades ago. Cheaper to stay than sell.

Hey, Millennials, GenZers. Do what the majority of "Boomers" did. Start at the bottom, sit back, and Wait. The majority of us started with Crap like mobile homes or ratty houses. We didn't expect to walk into a perfect home right out of the gate. What you think of as hoarding is that we worked our collective asses off and don't think it's our duty to grease your skids.

First off if we do sell there is a large tax bill that comes with that. Secondly the ones wanting us to move out cannot afford the house maintenance insurance and taxes that come with it. Thirdly it's entertaining to watch you bitch and complain instead of making your own way. Don't wait for the inheritance, build your own.
