Lately, I feel like my family is splitting in two, and I’m stuck right in the middle. My boyfriend and I have a sweet little boy together, but I also have a 16-year-old daughter with mild Asperger’s who’s just trying to find her place in our blended family. Yesterday, my boyfriend suggested we take a vacation—just the two of us and our toddler. He said he needs a break, and that my daughter’s quirks make things too hard. My heart broke right there. Her own dad already left her, and now her stepdad wants to leave her behind too? I can’t stop thinking about how alone she must feel, and honestly, I feel just as lost.
