Colmar’s Postcard Streets, My Out-of-Place Heart

Colmar’s Little Venice is the kind of place people post and say, 'It’s like a fairytale.' But I remember standing on that bridge, camera in hand, and feeling like an extra in someone else’s story. The houses leaned in, pastel and perfect, but I kept thinking about the dinner I’d eat alone, the awkward French I’d mangle, the way the river moved quietly while everyone else posed for photos. I wanted to belong to the scene, to be the person who glowed in this light. Instead, I watched myself from the outside—tourist, outsider, the one who never quite fits the frame.
