Every time I hear about another school shooting, my heart sinks. As a parent, I struggle with how to talk to my children about these tragedies without making them feel afraid to go to school. Last year, after a nearby incident, my daughter asked me if her school was safe. I took a deep breath and reassured her, but I also listened to her worries and let her know it’s okay to feel scared.
