A soldier found dead in his barracks three weeks after he went missing had been subjected to repeated mistreatment by his superiors, an inquest has heard. Lance Corporal Bernard Mongan, 33, was reportedly yelled at, made to clean officers’ cars in his own time, and forced to run during lunch breaks without time to eat. One officer allegedly filmed and shared videos of his humiliation in a WhatsApp group. He was discovered in his room at Catterick Garrison on January 23, 2020. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, his cause of death remains unclear. Former colleague Stephen Timmerman told the inquest that Mongan was treated unfairly, assigned inappropriate tasks, and spoken to harshly. He described Mongan as a kind man who may have been seen as an easy target and said the bullying he endured was severe. #community #rochester #soldier
