traveling after knee surgery: wheelchair or crutches dilemma

I’m getting ready for my first flight in years, and of course, it has to be right after knee surgery. The doctor says I won’t be able to walk yet, so I’m stuck choosing between crutches and my old wheelchair. Here’s the kicker: I actually own a wheelchair, but the place I’m visiting rents them, too. I’m torn. Should I drag my own wheelchair through the airport and deal with the hassle at security, or just ask United Airlines for wheelchair assistance and rent one when I land? I keep picturing myself stuck at baggage claim, watching everyone else breeze by while I wait for someone to help me. On the other hand, I’m worried a rental wheelchair might be uncomfortable or not fit right. Has anyone else dealt with this? I feel like I’m choosing between two headaches. If you’ve flown with mobility gear, did you regret bringing your own, or was it worth the trouble? I’d love to hear what worked for you, especially if you’ve had to juggle all this right after surgery. Sometimes it feels like the world just isn’t set up for folks like us who need a little extra help getting around. #travelingwithdisability #wheelchairtravel #kneesurgery #Travel
