My Cat Thinks Every Birthday Is Hers

So, my cat Mochi has decided that every time someone mentions a birthday, it’s obviously about her. She’s not even three yet, but you’d think she invented the concept of getting older. Last night, I tried to FaceTime my niece for her birthday, and Mochi sat directly in front of the camera, purring like she was the guest of honor. She’s also started bringing me her favorite toy mouse every morning, like it’s a birthday present. (It’s not. It’s soggy and smells like catnip, but I pretend to be grateful.) Honestly, I admire her confidence. Maybe we should all celebrate ourselves as shamelessly as our pets do.
